about

Poster Girl was written by Kim Watson in 2015 and first performed by SULK at She17 music events in London.

Poster Girl is an empowerment song for young women about keeping it real and being true to yourself. It was inspired by a poster she and Angie Hiilcoat had created and designed for a magazine feature on advertising gender equality and diversity.

Kimmi Watson has performed the song as part of her solo set this year and incorporated part of Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Women into the introduction when performing it at two International Women's Day events in March.

lyrics

Don't let anyone tell you you're

Too black, too white
Too butch, too dyke
Too mad, too sad
Too good, too bad

Too fat, too thin
Don't let 'em get under your skin
Too old, too young
no limit on having fun

Too fast, too slow
Too high, too low
Too black, too white
Today, tonight
